Walking Home From Mongolia has been a fantastic book to read. This book can truly teach anybody a lesson about the humour and honesty of life amid the triumphs and challenges we all go through. Through this novel, it helped remind me that I shouldn’t take life so seriously.

Rob, the expedition’s cameraman in the novel, makes a severe mistake in his filming techniques, causing the duo to lose hundreds of hours of footage ruined by a blurry guise. Rob and Leon come up with a master plan to fly back to their original departing place in Mongolia to attempt to re-film some of the footage that had been ruined. Afterwards, they strategically fly back to the location in China they are to required to continue their journey from. Making lemonade out of lemons, I suppose.

Walking Home From Mongolia has undoubtedly been a refreshing book to read because the author’s depiction of their journey is nothing short of authentic, straightforward, and unromantic. The writers are honest about everything, hurdles and all. This book is also highly relatable to many people who enjoy going on long expedition journeys, such as myself, because regardless of where you are, you are limited in food, comfort, and it tests you in every way imaginable. In addition, reading this book has also made me reflect on the things that matter most in life, which include companionship, nourishment, and shelter. With those three things, a good and meaningful life can be lived.
